2025 CMP Law & Justice Gala on April 24th

2025 HONOREES

Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY)

AABANY was founded in 1989 to address the lack of representation and support for Asian American attorneys in New York. They now stand as one of New York’s most prominent minority bar associations, with over 1,400 members, including practicing attorneys, judges, professors, and law students. AABANY continues to champion diversity, mentorship, and legal advocacy for the Asian American community.

Asian American Law Fund of New York (AALFNY)

AALFNY was established by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) in 1993 to promote the public good through establishing programs designed to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and to defend human and civil rights. They educate the public on the issues of Asian Americans and promote understanding among ethnic groups in New York, as well as encourage community understanding of legal processes and governmental agencies.

Edward J. Cuccia, Esq.

Edward J. Cuccia has been a practicing attorney for almost 20 years. Admitted to the Bar in 1990, Edward, an immigration guru, enjoys speaking with clients about the various legal issues that arise in their lives. A litigation specialist, Edward appeared before the Immigration Court and the Department of Homeland Security all over the nation. He is an advocate for the community on many public policy issues that affect Chinatown, in which he and his wife reside and his law practice headquarters.

Spirit of Immigrants Award

Nikki & Hailey Kwok

Sisters Nikki and Hailey joined CMP’s Out-of-School Youth Program (Now Train & Earn) as new immigrants from Hong Kong. Through the program, they improved their English, digital skills, and basic skills. They were introduced to the world of work, explored various career pathways, and received college counseling, guidance, assistance, and enrolled in college upon completing the program. Now the sisters are proud graduates of John Jay College of Criminal Justice and chose the career paths in law and justice. Nikki becomes a member of NYPD, and while Hailey is a full-time Financial Aid Coordinator at CUNY School of Professional Studies, she also works as a part-time paralegal in a law firm.

They noted that the curriculum covered not only professional knowledge like banking structures and investment strategies but also emphasized the importance of friendliness and patience for this role. “This has been a refreshing learning journey,” Summer remarked.

Course Highlights and Future Opportunity

This free training program, launched in January 2025, was designed to equip participants with essential banking industry skills through eight weeks of comprehensive financial education and practical training. The participants in this program included current undergraduate students and job seekers pursuing part-time or full-time employment opportunities. Professional instruction was provided by Flushing Bank representatives in both Mandarin and English. CMP also offered supplemental services such as resume writing, cover letter guidance, and interview preparation to ensure participants were job-ready. Flushing Bank will open a new branch at Chatham Square in Chinatown and intends to prioritize hiring outstanding graduates from this training program, providing participants with tangible employment opportunities.

CMP's Mission and Ongoing Commitments

Despite the devastation caused by a five-alarm fire in 2020, CMP has continued to expand its offerings. Last year, it relaunched its vocational training services, including an HVAC program in partnership with S&W Wilson, Inc., which received widespread acclaim from the community.

In 2025, CMP introduced new programs, including this financial literacy training in partnership with Flushing Bank and a medical receptionist training program with the CAIPA Foundation. CMP remains committed to providing high-quality training services, empowering economic self-sufficiency and career development, and injecting renewed energy and hope into the New York community.

CMP, in collaboration with Flushing Bank, will be providing a Financial Literacy & Retail Banking Career Training Program, starting in January 2025.

Our English Class Students Drew Thanksgiving Cards

This Thanksgiving, our English class got creative by drawing festive cards—using their hands! (Literally—students outlined their hands to create colorful turkey designs!)

In our class, students don’t just learn practical English; they also build friendships, immerse themselves in American culture, and discover American traditions like Thanksgiving.

Your support makes it possible for us to provide an environment where students can grow, connect, and thrive in their new community.

Thank you for being part of their journey. Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and joyful Thanksgiving!
